The Power To Change: Brian C's Story

When Brian first walked through the doors of Outreach 419, he wasn’t sure what he was stepping into. He’d been to recovery meetings before. He’d tried to get clean more than once. The Power of Change: Brian’s First 60 Days

When Brian first walked through the doors of Outreach 419, he wasn’t sure what he was stepping into. He’d been to recovery meetings before. He’d tried to get clean more than once. But what he found here was different—something he now calls “unconditional love.” And that love, along with the right support, lit a fire in him that’s still burning strong 60 days later.

Brian’s journey is one that so many of us can relate to—moments of hope followed by relapse, good intentions undone by old environments, and the constant tug-of-war between wanting to change and not knowing how.

But something clicked this time.

🔄 From Spiraling to Sober

After years of cycling through addiction, Brian reached a breaking point. Business losses, broken relationships, and repeated arrests had left him feeling defeated. But it wasn’t until he showed up to Outreach 419 and saw people—real people—who were laughing, thriving, and fully present in sobriety, that something shifted.

“I want to be like those people,” he said. “I want what they have.”

From that moment on, he stopped making excuses. He stopped playing games. He made the decision to go all in. He tossed the last of his weed out the car window and decided, once and for all, to be done.

And he hasn't looked back.

What We Can Learn from Brian’s First 60 Days

Here are some real takeaways from Brian’s story that anyone in early recovery—or anyone supporting someone in recovery—can apply right now:

1. Plug Into Community

“I’ve been to meetings, but Outreach 419 was different… the people actually cared.”

The power of recovery community can’t be overstated. When we surround ourselves with people who genuinely care and speak hope into our lives, things start to change. Find your tribe—and if you haven’t yet, we’ve got a seat for you.

2. Break the Cycle with Bold Action

“I rolled the window down and threw the dabs out. That was the last time I smoked.”

Sometimes, we overthink change. But bold, decisive action breaks patterns. Whether it’s deleting a contact, tossing what’s in your stash, or showing up to a meeting when you don’t feel like it—those moments matter.

3. Make a New Plan for the Future

“I want to become a Recovery Coach. I want to give back like people gave to me.”

Hope doesn’t just help you stay clean—it gives you something to live for. Brian isn’t just surviving—he’s dreaming again. And his goals? They’re big. Recovery coaching, public speaking, being the dad his daughter deserves… and maybe even making it to a meeting in all 50 states.
